Questions on private lessons

How many people are with an Instructor?
From 1 to 6
Will I be put with strangers / can I find other people to join?
Guides are for friends or family travelling together – its so you have your own guide and know everyone in the group. If you hook up with people you dont’t know and they are not as good, it will spoil the day.
Can you mix skiers and boarders in a lesson?
When you are learning the instructor demonstrates what you should do – he cannot teach 2 different sports at once, so you choose whether to ski OR board.
Can we mix abilities?
You can be of similar standard – if your abilities are too varied then your group may be too slow for some people – the instructor will go as fast as the slowest person. To get the most out of your instructor don’t vary abilities too wildly.
When are the lessons and where do I meet?
We offer 2 hour, 3 hour, 4 hour and all day private lessons. Places are given according to your level, your instructor will inform you the day before your lesson.
Can they take me off piste?
Yes but please specify when booking if you want an instructor who can.
Can we go on a glacier?
If the instructor thinks you are capable – please specify when booking.
Can the instructor pick me up?
For 9am starts depending on the group size. We have 7 seater mini-vans
What is the difference between an instructor and a guide?
An instructor will teach you / can take you on and off piste but NOT a glacier. A guide will guide you, but not offer instruction, though he can give you some tips to improve your style. (We also have Instructor Guides – they do it all!)
What does the price include ?
The price includes the private lesson only, not the ski pass or the equipment.

Questions on Vallée Blanche

What level do I need to be?
You need to be a good intermediate skier / boarder – that has off piste experience (if you
don’t then join an off piste clinic )
What is an off piste clinic ?
It’s a 3 hours session where we will take you off piste to teach you / improve your technique / re assure you that you are capable to go to the Vallée Blanche.
How many people are with a Guide?
Up to 6 people max. (maybe be lower according to conditions)
Can you mix skiers and boarders with a guide?
Only if you hire a private guide – BUT the guide will ski and take a route to avoid flat
areas for boarders.
When do we start?
Times will be confirmed but generally we meet at 8.15 am
How long does it take?
That depends on you and the conditions. Generally we say you should be finished by 2pm or 3pm.
Do I need a rucksack?
Yes – a rucksack that you can carry your skis or board on (these are super cheap at the local store near the meet point). You need to attach your equipment to this when you walk down the first path to get to the start of the Vallee Blanche.
Why do I need a guide?
The Vallee Blanche is a fantastic run open to any good skiers or boarders BUT it is a
glacier. You need a guide to negotiate your way down and more importantly, be there if youget into trouble. We guide hundreds of people down every winter, without problem – because we know what we are doing! It is easy to be fooled into thinking it’s ok to do alone as there is a lift thats takes you directly up there.
What else do I need?
A lift pass, water, suncream, snacks, poles, camera. The guide will have harnesses and transceivers.
